What are Eyelash Extensions?

Eyelash Extensions are individual synthetic, mink or silk eyelashes. They are attached one-by-one to each of your individual natural lashes – not to the skin. This service is beauty enhancing and eliminates the need to wear mascara. It is a meticulous service which requires the skill and precision of your certified lash technician. Once the Eyelash Extensions are applied, they are natural looking. Size availability ranges from short to long which will be decided and agreed upon with your certified eyelash technician.

What should you do before each Eyelash Extension appointment?

Wear no mascara, and have clean lashes using an oil free cleanser. Do not use oil based makeup remover prior to the eyelash application. Do not put on any mascara prior to your appointment.

How are the Eyelash Extensions applied?

Eyelash Extensions are single synthetic lashes applied directly to the natural lash, close to (but not touching) the lash line with a semi-permanent bonding adhesive.  For classic lashes, a single extension is applied to a single lash, leaving the eyelashes and eyelids to move freely. For volume lashes, two or more lash extensions are applied. They are applied carefully, using specially designed tweezers. The whole process normally takes 1 – 2 hours depending on the service provided.

How long will Eyelash Extensions last if I follow the proper care instructions?

In some cases, Eyelash Extensions can last up to 4 weeks. However, it is common to get a touch up after 3 weeks. Like all hair, there are 3 phases to the eyelash growth cycle. There are lashes in each phase at all times, therefore, some will be lost within a couple of weeks, and others can last much longer as part of the natural cycle.

Do Eyelash Extensions damage my natural lashes?

No. When Eyelash Extensions are applied correctly they will not harm your natural lashes; each lash extension is adhered to one single natural lash; the extension will grow out naturally as your own lash matures. The eyelash adhesive is formulated to create a solid bond, specifically for human lashes. The adhesive dries very soft on the lashes, allowing the lashes to stay flexible and bouncy just like your own lashes.

As your natural lashes grow and fall out due to the natural growth cycle, you will need refills. It is important to have 65% of the extensions on your lashes in order to maintain the desired clean, full consistent look. Recommended refills are ever 3 - 4 weeks.

Does it hurt to have Eyelash Extensions done?

The application of applying to Eyelash Extensions is not painful. The lash extensions are applied with caution to each natural lash. If you do experience any burning or discomfort, let the technician know immediately. Your technician is trained in dealing with this potential issue.

Can people with contact lenses have Eyelash Extensions?

Yes you can have contact lenses in, but your eyes may get irritated after a while having your eyes closed if your contacts are still in. If you have a tendency to get dry, we advise that you remove your contacts before your appointment.

Are Eyelash Extensions safe when pregnant?

Generally speaking, Eyelash Extensions are a safe and non-invasive cosmetic procedure. Lashes By Emmanuella uses a high-quality, low fume adhesive which is manufactured specifically for cosmetic use near the eye, and the adhesive does not actually ever touch your skin – as the extensions are glued to the eyelash hairs. Allergic reactions to the adhesive are very rare (1 in several thousand) and when they do present, are easily treated. In saying this, we do not recommend that pregnant women who have never had eyelash extensions before test out the procedure during their pregnancy. The reasons are two-fold – firstly, the lash extension procedure requires you to lay flat on your back for over one hour; a position that is not recommended for women in the advanced stages of pregnancy. It also requires that you lie quite still – which can be hard if you’re heavily pregnant! Secondly, if you were unlucky enough to have an allergic reaction, your doctor may not be able to give you the required treatment due to your pregnancy, prolonging the reaction. However – if we have been doing your lashes here at Lashes By Emmanuella and you become pregnant, there’s no problem continuing with the extensions – just let us know so that we can make sure you are comfortable at all times!
